building a minimalist closet for the summer;according to me

I, like every human being out there, have gone through many phases in my life. Especially when you’re a person hellbent on finding your own signature look and style. The journey to that signature look is usually long and most times ends in an identity crisis of some sort, with that identity crisis actually becoming a person’s signature look😂, ironic right. Sometimes it’s a successful journey and you feel very good about the new level of your life that you have successfully unlocked. Which was how I felt after I discovered my love for minimalist fashion & style. I felt like I had just returned home after a long time of wandering about, seeking for something I didn't know I already possessed.

Building a closet or a lookbook for a certain season is a huge necessity for me, it keeps me prepared and organized, and with the right staples I can still freestyle my outfits with whatever I want, if I want to.

The first staple I usually rush to get, is a nice pair of linen or linen-blend pants. I call it a staple because I believe it goes with anything and everything.

Then a flare maxi dress. Something that will move freely when that sweet summer breeze blows.

Next, you’ll need a pair of sandals, and/or, a pair of slides. Something with a puff for comfort, and a heel for elevation… or whatever.

Dressing in a minimalist style means your outfit will most likely just be plain, so a BOLD accessory, or accessories, is a must have. Accessories that will stand out, while still elevating your outfit.

With these few recommendations I hope you can start building your minimalist closet for the summer.

Minimalism is often accompanied by the saying that “LESS IS MORE,” and what this basically means, in relation to fashion or style, is that not wearing a lot is in fact wearing the most, metaphorically speaking. And the way I interpreted this in my head was that you buy a few, very expensive bespoke or designer, pair of clothings - ONLY - every month or two and that’s all you will have in your closet for that time period, 😂 I laugh at myself now for that immature outlook on minimalism. Don’t get me wrong, I was definitely right about the limited number of clothes you will actually have in your closet, but I was completely wrong about them having to be just designer clothing. The very truth of minimalist fashion is that the aim is for you to look as simple as ever, despite the brand you actually wear.

Till next time!✌🏽
