does Dolce&Gabbana have a future with Gen Z?

The day is Friday and it’s a bit early in the morning, on a newly declared public holiday here in Canada, and unfortunately, like most people my age I’m scrolling through TikTok while waiting for the time to be 8 o'clock so I can properly start my day. A new TikTok trend just started a few days ago, and someone I follow, and very much consider to be one of the most influential people my age, “Miss Ash aka MUSTBEMARGIELA” just did her own take on the trend.

Inserts link to watch the video↳ https://www.tiktok.com/@mustbemargiela/video/7148905911413787909?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7128898679926851078

The context of this trend or, more preferably, the way I perceive this trend, is that you’re basically saying you wouldn't consider “SAID PERSON” stylish, or you don't value their opinion because you don't believe they can dress, AT ALL.

Now to the juicy part. Right after watching that video it got me thinking abou↳t the future of Dolce & Gabbana. The brand and more specifically it's founders, in fact the founders of the brand have done everything possible, in their power, to piss off the other “diverse” people that make up the fashion lovers and pushers of our time. I believe people of my generation wouldn't even look at an archive D&G fashion show because of the offensive things they have witnessed the brand put out. While some generations spent their mid-teen years experiencing a brand that focused on the embodiment of women clothing from a Catholic and Italian point of view, I assume [WILL RESEARCH MORE ON THIS SHA], the Millennials and Gen Zs spent theirs witnessing something completely different. Anyways, the fact is I’m not here to talk about their offensive ways but if you are interested HIGHSNOBIETY did a blog post about it [INSERTS LINK]↳ https://www.highsnobiety.com/p/dolce-gabbana-alta-moda-venice/ .

Now, what i’m very much interested in is the future of the brand. Will there be Gen Zs buying looks from D&G?, and are there Gen Zs who are currently buying from D&G but in secret?, When the current founders die or retire, business-wise, will they decide to change the name of the brand in order to not associate the new creative they will hire with old ones or would they just leave it as it is? I think I have more but these are all I’ll ask. I am very much interested to see how things unfold in the future because it will be a huge thing to experience.

With the way society makes people be all “FOLLOW-FOLLOW,” most people want to do what they see others doing. There are some people that cannot separate the artists from their art and can’t look past the wrongs the founders of Dolce&Gabbana have done, while there are others who just don’t want to get canceled by their peers or whoever cancels who. This behaviour was definitely seen after D&G showcased their new Spring/Summer 2023 collection collaboration with Kim Kardashian, and seeing the attendees, a lot of people were a bit pissed off. The looks from the show were based off archive looks and were honestly beautiful, stunning and thankfully nothing offensive, and I could already picture some people who I would style some of the looks on.

Which brings me back to Mustbemargiela’s take on the TikTok trend. The brand Dolce & Gabbana has great clothing pieces that I consider to be stylish, almost statement pieces, so I might consider a person's opinion on something even if said person happens to be wearing a Dolce&Gabbana piece or look.
