best dressed according to me; met gala women edition

This year's met gala was held on the 2nd day of May, with the theme “America: An Anthology of Fashion” with a focus at the age of Gilded Glamour in New York. This list is dedicated to the few who were purposely on theme.

Although these are my best looks, I do have comments to make on them and I will be adding them where possible.

First we have Lena Mahfouf wearing a Markarian dress, Jimmy Choo heels and Bulgari jewelry, styled by Nikita Vlassenko. My thoughts on this: I alsolutely love the fact that she wore a false butt aka a bustle, and that’s it. It’s a very simple look still, which I believe could have given more with the right accessories.

Next up we have Billie Eilish in full Gucci. It’s a custom upcycled duchesse satin corseted gown, with lace underlay, gathered duchesse satin skirt with padded bustle and a tonal duchesse corsage, finished off with an embroidered choker. My thoughts: this was, hands down, my favourite look of the night; she didn't do too much (in putting on too much accessories) and she didn’t do too little, it was just right there in middle and she pulled it off perfectly.

Next is Lady Whistledown herself, Nicola Coughlan in custom Richard Quinn dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, and Swarovski jewels, styled by Aimee Croysdill. Just perfect.

Sza in a lovely custom Vivienne Westwood gown, whose designs we definitely should have seen more of, styled by Kollin Carter. My thoughts: I love that she wore this magnificent headpiece to really make the look on theme, what I dislike is the latex. The latex heavily contrasted with the material and colour of the dress. In my opinion they should have gone with a lace material for the gloves and the stockings, if those are stockings on her legs. Lace would have given the look a softer vibe, very different from the dom vibes the latex is giving. Maybe she didn't want that. All in all it was definitely a beautiful look, and I loved it.

Next is Laura Harrier in H&M gown, and David Yurman jewels, styled by Danielle Goldberg. My thoughts: Lovely lovely dress, I was very surprised to hear it was H&M. I love that the material looks silver, it gives the dress a Joan of Arc meets gilded glamour vibe. I do feel a headpiece was needed, but those pearls definitely made up for it.

Then we have Lizzo in Thom Browne. Absolutely REGAL!! That’s it.

Emma Corrin in a custom MIU MUI ensemble, Cartier jewels, and custom W & W by Orlando Palacios top hat, styled by Harry Lambert. My thoughts: the look was inspired by Evander Berry Wall ‘The King of Dudes,’ who would change his outfit at least four times day, usually after every meal he ate. I think it's fascinating that she did what the men who attended couldn't do. I love the reference, and she indeed pulled this off flawlessly.

Next is Kacey Musgraves in full Prada, styled by Erica Cloud. My thoughts… I have none for this one, just enjoy the pictures.

Maude Apatow looks like she came directly from the gilded age past to pay us in the 21st century a visit, AND I LOVE IT. She wore a Miu Mui dress with Cartier jewels, styled by Mimi Cuttrell.

Next we have Carey Mulligan in full Schiaparelli “Gilded Couture.” I will let the pictures speak for themselves. This dress is exactly a futuristic gilded glamour look. However, a headpiece would have added a much needed flare to the full look.

Okay, for these next looks I have no comments, because I am tired and have to go do other stuff, so I'll just mention the outfit details only.

Adwoa Aboah in this Tory Burch gown is EVERYTHING! The entire look is everything, but what I love the most is the way her was styled. It was a time before the act of laying edges became necessary, so I am glad her edges are frayed. This look was styled by Karla Welch and Grace Wrightsell, and hair by Rebekah Forecast.

Sarah Jessica Parker wearing a Christopher John Rogers gown, Philip Treacy hat, Fred Leighton jewelry and SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker shoes.

Director Janicza Bravo in Schiaparelli suit, golden toes platform boots and sculptural hat designed by Stephen Jones for Schiaparelli. Again, she did what needed to be done wearing this suit.

And finally, we have Radha Blank in Jenny Couture dress and coat, and a Fanm Djanm head wrap.

Well that brings me to the end of this post, finally. By the way this list was done in no particular order.

Till next time. ✌🏽
