we always look back to look forward: a Gucci review

the fall 2023 menswear Gucci collection, by unknown, is telling us to still appreciate the styles that dominated the scenes in the beginning of the 2000s millennium for this years autumn (fall) season. Although the collection features the oversized trench coats style that dominated the late 90s and has failed leave our minds since then, I would rather want to pay attention and bring your attention to the other aspect I did not expect.

Alessandro’s Gucci never failed to pay homage to the vibrant styles that evolved before the late 90s minimalist styles, but this collection seems to want us to move our focus to another era that turned our heads when it reigned: the early and mid 2000s.

I would let the pictures speak for themselves while also highlighting the accessories and styles that make it very evident for me. First we have the GREY leg warmers on looks 35, 30, 27, 24 and 29 -very heavy on that grey colour-, then the slim-fitted men inner-wears, on looks 24 and 6, that end up not getting paired with another clothing on top of them -very equivalent to the way female intimates are worn on the outside now-, then the beanies or toques that don't quite provide protection to the ears, and finally the slim-fitted (not skinny) pants evidently styled in that old-fashioned, y2k manner.

With the tone of my writing you might think I am making a mockery of these styles, but indeed I am not, I am merely just stating the obvious in the manner I know best, which is with some weird humour only a few might understand. But in conclusion I will say it seems like the need to stay relevant is what is now in the mind of whomever was in charge of this collection, seeing that no one has indeed been officially appointed. I say this because it was just 1 month ago that the American actress Katie Holmes wore a very trendy y2k style, -the dress over jeans style- to a jingle ball concert in New York and it was one of the most talked about things on social media, even in The New York Times . I think it is more like damage control to the fact that Alessandro's departure hit hard to the celebrity-filled clientele he brought the house, and it is necessary to them that their names still remain in peoples mouths aka comments, remarks and headlines on the internet and social media platforms -which I must say is working as some people left comments comparing the collection to the fast fashion brand Zara and designer Hedi Slimane’s collections at Celine.

Honestly just read the comments for a laugh break 😂 gucci Instagram comments

To fashion enthusiasts out there please leave a comment saying what you think about the collection. I would love to hear them, because my comments are mainly from my point of view and I would like to look at this through other people’s POV.

till next time✌🏽
