entry no. 6, the early bloomers

welcome back! to the 6th entry of exposing the callous igbo girl, where I expose myself, the callous igbo girl.

First and foremost I would like to acknowledge my unintentional absence from your eyes and screens, I apologize. For my come back I have decided to shut the fuck up about my feelings and expose myself in the form of pictures, because I genuinely felt I had to sweet talk my way back into your lives before I “dump on you.”

The majority of my May & June were spent attending a class about evolutionary biology. This class was taught by the least experienced instructor I have ever seen, and believe me when I say it was extremely mentally painful. However, I compensated it with the fact that it gave me the opportunity to get dressed and leave my room most days. During this time, I also spent the early hours of my mornings taking power walks, which mostly did to get in my “STEPS FOR THE DAY,” -yes I am one of them- but in addition to that, I ended up getting to see a few of the first flowers to bloom in Winnipeg after the winter season. In all honesty it was truly one of the few activities to bring me joy during that period. I also had the pleasure of jumping into some animals along the way including a herd of deer, squirrels of the sort, birds with their music and some raccoons. On some unfortunate days mosquitoes would be added to this list.

For the context of this post I decided to give the flowers and outfits a collective name, “THE EARLY BLOOMERS.” So, with that thought, here's my documentation of my top 5 favourites from the first set of outfits I wore in spring with the first flowers to bloom in spring that I happened to photograph.

OUTFIT 1 “THE OFFICE WITH A TWIST”

In addition to the title above I would also like to describe this look as “SLUTTY-COPORATE-CASUAL.” Slutty because of the thigh-high slit that stylishly exposes some skin as I move and the ballet flats tied a bit across the ankles to accessorize the legs making it not look so bare. That is all the explanation I would like to give.

OUTFIT 2 “THE RESOURCEFUL LOOK”

Featuring an extra large graphic t-shirt from the wardrobe of my younger brother, a pair of linen dress pants that's a hand-me-down from my mother & a sheer mini dress gotten from the thrift store, all worn on a very hot spring day. What can I say, I am as resourceful as they come.

OUTFIT 3 “THE CAMPUS BABE”

THE CAMPUS BABE. Featuring a monogrammed white t-shirt snagged from the H&M and Mugler collaboration, one of my favourite new pair of jeans -low-waisted and bootcut with a split down south-, a new pair of flat shoes & last but not least an almost vintage secondhand Marc Jacobs bag, I will say do with that name what you please.

OUTFIT 4 “THE CHURCH GOER”

THE CHURCH GOER. By the name i’m sure you can already guess where this outfit was worn to. The weather had dropped a bit, since in Winnipeg the month of May still welcomes some chills that my hypothermic self couldn't handle, and I didn't want to wear any heavy coats. So, I settled for a long skirt with a t-shirt, a black denim jacket on top to shield my arms and chest, and a pair of beatniks that are closed-toe but heel-opened to leave room for a little breeze every now and then.

OUTFIT 5 “THE SPORTY BOHO”

The sporty boho for me involves mixing sporty, e.g wearing sneakers, with long flowy dresses that my mother will most definitely approve of. However, for this outfit I paired the dress with a thick, black -& long- t-shirt that I snagged from the thrift store and, it served as an extra piece of clothing that wasn't a cardigan but, could still shield me from the cold harsh breeze that was present the day this outfit was worn.

And with that, I bring you to the end of this welcome back special. Till next time ✌🏽

FCE.
